As if the view wasn't enough, add two great restaurants to the equation and call it a knockout. Typhoon, located on the lower level, is a mid range priced location that serves everything from bugs to pasta. All the waiters are well dressed and are always on top of their job. Being 17, they treated myself and my friend just as they would anyone else which is not something that always happens... We took a 152 into SMO and paid the $4.15 landing fee which was a bit confusing. We found simply writing your tail number on the envelope provided did the trick. Do make sure to check out the aloft viewing area in front of The Hump. It is truly a one of a kind now-a-days.

In my humble opinion Tyhoon is the best on-field airport restaurant in SoCal. The food is excellent and the views of the runway don't get any better. It gets very busy at peak times but I've had minimal waits on week nights.

Typhoon is a quirky restaurant. They serve ants, crickets, and other insects in addition to the more standard Asian fare. The food is quite good, the service is decent, and it would work as a standalone restaurant even if the airport wasn't there. But since it is... the expansive windows are about 100' from the runway, and there's a nice rooftop deck from which to watch the airplanes come and go. I love watching the fog come in from that deck in the evenings.
